BOS 3/18/14 Dixon Ranch Development Agreement authorization vote

posted Mar 16, 2014, 8:17 AM by Green Valley Alliance   [ updated Mar 18, 2014, 4:45 PM ]
Tuesday, March 18th, our Supervisors will be voting on proceeding with Development Agreements for Dixon Ranch, Central EDH, Marble Valley/Lime Rock Valley, and San Stino (agenda and time not yet posted).
Development Agreements (DA’s) are voluntary contracts often requested by developers so that approved projects will be immune to changes in regulations (such as zoning changes).  For the County, DA’s can provide certainty regarding the financing and timely construction of infrastructure and public facilities.
The public has said they do not want these large subdivisions, and our infrastructure for traffic, water, and schools is at capacity.  The community is circulating ballot initiatives to stop these projects, and thus they may never actually be approved.  Staff time should not be spent on "optional" work for the benefit of developers when staff has repeatedly said they don’t have the resources to work on projects benefiting residents (like changing community region boundaries).
What you can do: Please write our Supervisors, asking them NOT enter into DA negotiations prematurely. Have them focus staff on issues that benefit the greater public in this county, not just a few developers that may or may not live within our borders.   (Contact info and sample 'starter' email below).

update Tuesday afternoon:  Supervisors voted unanimously this morning NOT to authorize staff to form a negotiating team to proceed with DA's for the specific projects listed, undoubtedly thanks to the letters and show of support for the community opposition to these projects.  Thanks to all who helped.
After the vote, Supervisors voted again to form a committee to develop a DA process for EDC, but it is to be process oriented and not address the specific projects that are underway.
